About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Forest Systems is an international and open access peer-reviewed journal with free fees for authors. Forest Systems aims to integrate multidisciplinary and multi-scale research with forest management in complex systems subject to diverse social and ecological background. Papers that bring together two or more disciplines, forest products and services, interactions between ecological factors and species are given preference in Forest Systems. Manuscripts in relation to climate change effects on forest dynamics, resilience and vulnerability are welcome. Papers that highlight implications of forests products and services on bioeconomy are into the scope of this journal. Studies of all kind of forest systems can be submitted, in particular those that provide a variety of wood and non-wood products and ecosystem services in Regions of Mediterranean climate. Forest Systems covers research findings dealing with all aspects of forest ecosystems and forestry such as (in alphabetic order):
  • Agroforestry
  • Biodiversity and conservation (including plants and animals)

  • Biometry, silviculture and forest management

  • Dendroecology and paleoecology

  • Ecology and forest dynamics

  • Ecophysiology

  • Genetics (including breeding) and biotechnology

  • Pathology, biotic interactions and pests

  • Policy and economics

  • Remote sensing and landscape

  • Science and technology of forest products: wood, cellulose and non-wood products (including new applications or capabilities of lignocellulosic material and biorefineries)

  • Soils, hydrology and restoration

  • Wildfires, fire ecology and management

Peer Review Process

Forest Systems is a peer review journal. Manuscripts are typically reviewed by two referees, from the International Scientific Committee or by external reviewers. We usually undergo a maximum of two rounds of evaluation. After finishn the second round the paper will be either accepted or declined. In the last case, a new submission can be encouraged.
Authors may nominate a list of four potential expert reviewers in their accompanying letter. These reviewers must not have a conflict of interest with the authors or paper, and the Editorial board may not contact any of the reviewers suggested by the authors. Criteria used in evaluating the papers are the novelty and interest for a broad audience, the quality of the paper, and the adecuate methodology, statistical analysisi and interpretationof the results provided by the authors. Auhtors must provide a complete answer to all the questions raised by the reviewers when uploading an improved version of the paper.
